The Foundation: Clear Communication
The difference between a squad of four skilled solo players and a cohesive team often comes down to communication. In PUBG, milliseconds matter — the time it takes to say "there's a guy over there by the thing" versus "enemy, northwest, 315, behind the red building, 150 meters" can determine who wins the fight.
Establish a callout system with your squad. Use compass bearings (visible at the top of the screen) for direction, landmark descriptions for position, and approximate distances. The format "Contact — bearing — landmark — distance" is used by competitive teams worldwide because it is fast, unambiguous, and actionable.
Avoid cluttering comms during active firefights. Only the player currently engaged should be making calls unless someone spots a flank. Dead teammates should relay information calmly rather than shouting — they can see more from the spectator view.
Crossfire Positioning
Never stack your squad in a single building or behind a single tree. The golden rule of squad positioning is: spread out enough that a single grenade cannot hit two teammates, but stay close enough that you can trade kills within 3-5 seconds.
Crossfire means positioning your squad so that when an enemy engages one member, another member has an angle on the enemy's flank or rear. Think of it as forming an L-shape or triangle around likely enemy positions. If all four players are looking at the enemy from the same angle, you are stacking — and a competent opponent will simply take cover from that single angle.
In compound fights, place one pair inside the compound and one pair in an adjacent position (a nearby hill, a separate building, or behind vehicles). The inside pair draws attention; the outside pair punishes enemies who push.
Executing a Team Push
Pushing an enemy squad is the most complex team action in PUBG. A poorly coordinated push against a fortified squad will result in your team being picked apart one by one. A well-executed push overwhelms the defenders before they can react.
Step one: suppress. Have two players lay down consistent fire on the enemy position to force them behind cover and prevent them from peeking. Step two: flank. While suppression fire is active, two players move to an angle that the enemy is not watching. Step three: execute. On a countdown, all four players apply pressure simultaneously from multiple angles.
Smoke grenades are critical for pushes across open ground. Throw them not directly on the enemy but along the path your flankers will travel. This blocks the enemy's line of sight without alerting them to exactly where your team is moving.
After a successful push, immediately loot essential items (armor swaps, heals) and reset your positioning. The noise from your fight will attract third parties, and you have a narrow window to prepare.
Vehicle Rotations as a Squad
Squad rotations in vehicles require discipline. The driver should always be the player with the best map awareness, not necessarily the player who found the vehicle first. Call out your intended route before driving — "We are going north along the road, turning west at the fork toward Pochinki."
Never drive directly into an area without scouting. Stop the vehicle 100-200 meters from your destination, dismount, and clear the area on foot. Getting ambushed while four players exit a UAZ is one of the most common squad wipes in PUBG.
In late-game rotations, consider splitting into two vehicles. If one vehicle is destroyed, half your squad survives. If you must use a single vehicle, the moment you start taking fire, the driver should immediately drive perpendicular to the incoming shots — never directly toward or away from the shooter.
Revive Priority and Resource Sharing
When a teammate is knocked, do not immediately rush to revive them. First, eliminate or suppress the threat. A revive in the open with an active shooter watching will result in two downed players instead of one.
Use smokes to cover revives. Throw the smoke directly on the downed player, wait for it to bloom, then begin the revive. If you have no smokes, drag the fight away from the downed player by re-engaging the enemy from a different angle.
Resource sharing is an underrated squad skill. After looting, call out what you have and what you need. If one player has eight first-aid kits and another has zero, redistribute. A squad is only as strong as its weakest-equipped member. Share scopes, meds, and ammo actively — especially before the late game when resupply opportunities vanish.
